The Lincoln Community Play Association has previously produced two community plays. The first play, ‘A Bucket Full of Daisies’ was produced in 1989 and was based on the typhoid epidemic in Lincoln in 1905. There were over 100 cast members of all ages – the youngest being a baby in a pram and the eldest a man aged 94 (who was always the first at rehearsals and the last to leave at night).
The second play was produced in 2001 and entitled ‘Dead Men Dancing’. This was based on different characters in Lincoln’s history. Again the cast members were composed of all ages and drawn from various social backgrounds. Following this play, the two leading players were accepted on to acting courses and are now pursuing their careers in the theatre.
The Community Play Association’s current project builds on this work and is a response to the demand for another community play which has been developing from those who have previous experience of participating in these events and also from others who are excited by the possibilities for personal development such an activity offers.
